Kuro Ame ("black candy") is Japan's #1 best-selling black sugar candy, made with premium kokuto (Okinawan brown sugar) using a traditional direct-fire cooking method. The pot is placed directly over an open flame and slowly reduced at high heat, drawing out a rich, complex, aromatic flavor — far more nuanced than a typical sweet hard candy, with layers of caramelized depth rather than a single-note sweetness.
First launched in 1980, Kuro Ame has remained a nostalgic favorite in Japan for over four decades. Each piece is individually wrapped in old-fashioned "twist wrap" paper, designed to open easily without much effort — a small, thoughtful detail that's kept fans coming back for generations. Contains approximately 17 pieces per bag.
